TOTTI DOWN UNDER

Francesco Totti is slowly coming to the end of his stellar career with Roma and he has been able to guide the club through lots of ups and downs over the last two decades. It is only a matter of time before he announces his retirement from the game.

However, latest rumours appear to suggest that Totti may be prepared to keep on playing, but at a lower level. Australian club Brisbane Roar are reportedly showing interest in him. The club’s chairman has made the Italian as the number one target in the summer. If they indeed managed to sign the 37-year-old, he would be the second high-profile Italian to move to Australia.

Former Juventus star Alessandro del Piero is already playing with a club in Sydney. Totti is under contract with Roma until the summer of 2016, but are unlikely to be issues in letting the player leave if he wishes to do so.

Totti has been a great servant for Roma over the years. He has won all major titles including league and the World Cup with Roma and the national team. However, it appears that the Italian giants are looking to go with a much more youthful set up to plan for the future.

Brisbane Roar are currently top of the Australian A-League after finishing fifth last season.

"It would be great for Brisbane Roar if we could sign a great champion like Totti. He is an incredible player and everybody knows him. Del Piero has become an icon at Sydney and Francesco could achieve the same at us. He is already a legend and he will be received like a king in Australia. The A-League is on the rise ever since the arrival of Del Piero. I know that Totti means to Roma, but you never know what will happen in football," said Brisbane Roar vice-chairman Chris Fong.
