Spanish side Atletico Madrid have been rewarding key members of the football clubs for their loyalty and assuring them of greater things to come if they continue working together. The club had to spend a lot to keep Griezmann when he was almost set to move to major La Liga rivals Barcelona. The Frenchman got rewarded with a good deal and is set to remain in the city of Madrid for a while.

Next was tying long time coach Diego Simeone. Latest reports claim Simeone would get a better deal than star player Griezmann. The Argentine has several admirers, especially after his impressive work at Atletico over the years. He helped change the perception that Spanish football was a two-man race between Real Madrid and Barcelona. Even though the club has seen better times, they have remained competitive all through, considering their relative budget.

Atletico likely made the move in a bid to tie down Simeone once and for all amidst talks of moving to the Premier League. With his current deal set to lapse in 2020, the club is in talks for a possible four-year extension. Griezmann is earning £17.5m a year but Simeone could rake in over £18m, as per reports. This would make him the highest paid person at the club.

He actually deserves it having helped raise the profile of the club since he joined seven years back. He helped manage the club’s finances ingeniously during the transition to their new stadium Wanda Metropolitano . Before that he helped the team to several titles including the famous La Liga title steal of 2014. Atletico has reached two finals in the Champions League, losing to their city rivals, but a big feat nonetheless.

“Next the club is looking to tie down first choice goalkeeper Jan Oblak.“ The Slovenian has been excellent at his job and wants an improved deal. He is in talks with the club so “they can iron out“ a deal.

Next would be other key figures that have helped the club to where they are now. Not everyone would get as much figures but they are set to be very competitive.
