BECKHAM HAS WINNING START

Paris Saint-Germain has defeated Olympique de Marseille in a Ligue 1 match played at Parc des Princes on Monday. PSG won the match by 2-0.

This was PSG’s 16th win in the ongoing Ligue 1. This win kept PSG at the top of the Ligue 1 points table. PSG currently has 54 points in 26 matches.

This was a pretty special match. First, it was the clash between two arch rivals and second, it was David Beckham’s first match for PSG.

Beckham was expected to be included in the starting line up, but, that didn’t happen. Beckham was sent onto the field in the later part of the second half. But, the English midfielder made an impact immediately after coming onto the field. He helped Zlatan Ibrahimovic to score the second goal for PSG in the first minute of the stoppage time.

Earlier in the match, PSG took the lead in the 11th minute with the help of an own goal from Nicolas Nkoulou. Lucas Moura played a powerful shot from a distance of about 18 yards and Nkoulou tried to clear it, but, unfortunately, he ended up tapping the ball into his own post.

In the post match press conference, Beckham said, “It was really a perfect debut for me. We won quite easily and I contributed in that second goal. It couldn’t have been better than that.”

When asked about the huge crowd that had turned up to watch him, Beckham said, “It’s great that they love me so much here in France. I am overwhelmed. The crowd was fantastic. The atmosphere in the stadium was absolutely superb. So, it was fun out there.”

PSG will again face Olympique de Marseille in three days’ time. That will be a match of the French Cup.
