JUNOR MAVS BEATEN :(

After a stinging 6-1 loss against Shorecrest, the Mavericks boys soccer team looked to rebound Tuesday against another incredibly tough team, the Shorewood Thunderbirds. Sadly, the T-Birds controlled the game the whole way and came away with a 3-0 win.

Despite being snakebitten in the first half, Shorewood was finally able to break the stalemate in the second half thanks to goals by Hayk Avanesayan, Eugene Holley and Daniel Yun. Sahil Khan also was a constant threat; though he didn’t score, he was a great set-up man.

The first half started with a good chance for the Mavs on Peter Mataya’s shot, but the majority of the half was spent in the Mavs end. Avanesyan had a great chance in the 14th minute that was blocked, and the corner was cleared. Later, in the 19th minute, a cross came in for Khan, but his shot barely went wide. The only other chance for the Mavs was a cross by Mitch Hatzenbeler, but it was caught by the keeper. Right back the other way, another shot from Khan went wide. This was followed by a turnover by Patrick Gove, the Maverick goalie, to the T-Birds that was kicked into the crease, but the ball was blocked by Nils Odegaard.
