MAVERICKS WALK FOR CHARITY

At the Plantation Sarcoma 5KWalk/Run in October the Archbishop McCarthy Lady Maverick Soccer Team earned the distinction of having recruited the greatest number of members, over the sixty walkers signed up with the Lady Mavericks Soccer team. “It was a beautiful site and you certainly could see us coming in a sea of Pink…!” laughed Lady Maverick Coach Mike Sica.

On a serious note, the good fun was for a sobering reason, “I am very proud of our girls, they have really embraced this cause,” said Sica. “To see them united in their pink shirts walking across the finish line was a great reminder of what athletics are all about."

Everyone agreed the Lady Mavericks were a successful team including Norine Spencer who is the Fundraising Director for the Sarcoma Foundation of America. “The Lady Maverick team raised over $5,000 one of the highest amounts raised by a team that day,” said Spencer.

In their continued efforts to fight Sarcoma the Lady Mavericks have dedicated their December 16th 6:00.m. game at Archbishop McCarthy High School, 5451 South Flamingo Road, Southwest Ranches, FL 33330, to raise awareness for the Sarcoma Foundation and raise funds in honor of “Soccer Mom” Debbie Williams. “Each Lady Maverick is actively recruiting sponsors who will make donations to the Sarcoma Foundation,” said Sica. The girls are also making shirts, banners, and they have ordered blue plastic bracelets to sell for $3 each with the phrase "Mavericks Kick Sarcoma".
