NASL WANTED FRANCESCO TOTTI

The NASL in America wanted Italian soccer legend Francesco Totti to join them next after leaving AS Roma FC – a club he played for all his life.

New York Cosmos coach Giovanni Savarese revealed that the club failed to lure Totti to end his days in America.

Totti ended his illustrious career after several decades playing for his boyhood club Roma. The former Swansea player turned coach Savarese claimed he reached out to Totti but the 39-year old did not agree to the move.

Savarese told Italian sources that any coach or organization would be interested in the caliber of player as Totti, pointing out his loyalty. He mentioned Real Madrid legend Raul Gonzalez and AC Milan legend Paolo Maldinias other stars whose loyalty aside their pure football brilliance stood them out from other greats.

“I think he’s one anybody would love to have on their team. There has been for sure a contact. There has been a conversation, but that would be the max I’d be able to say right now. We don’t like to talk to players who are not our players,” the manager said.

Totti rejected all the offers he received from his admirers. He agreed to move to a technical role in the Italian capital after Giallorossi boss Eusebio di Francesco offered. The celebrated retired star played more than 600 games, scoring 250 goals.

Savarese, who used to play for Swansea in the 2000s, has coached the Cosmos for seven years now. He would have to continue his search for loyal legends elsewhere for now.
