Totti Expects Italy To Possibly Win World Cup

Former Italy captain Francesco Totti has stated that he expects Italy to go to the latter stages of the World Cup 2014 and possible win the tournament. Ahead of the match with England, there is a lot of expectations from Italy. They reached the final of the Euro 2012 where they were beaten by Spain. Since then, Cesare Prandelli has introduced a number of younger players into the team and they are believed to be slightly stronger than before. Even though they are in a difficult group containing Uruguay and England, Totti believes that they can win the tournament.

Totti has not been out of the squad despite having an impressive season with Roma. He almost led the club to Italian Serie A success for the first time. At almost 40 years of age, he is widely expected to retire from all forms of football in the next few years. He was the last Italy player to lift the World Cup in 2006. Aside from Brazil, Italy are one of the most successful teams in the history of the competition. However, there were knocked out of the 2010 World Cup at the group stages, which led to the appointment of Cesare Prandelli.

The former Fiorentina boss has brought in several new ideas to the national team since his appointment. “I believe that Italy have a chance to win it in Brazil. Certainly, there are very strong teams but Italy often come in the top four so we can hope. Our national side is always tough to beat because in the end, the mentality of every player can make a difference. The main thing is to form a group, solid and united, that gives it all. The objective is to come together under the colours of Italy and when this succeeds, it is beautiful,” said Totti.
